Heavy Zipper Cushion

Use a zipper as a decorative element to make your cozy cushion a unique piece.

What You Need: Fabric for the front:
  • Pink fabric, 15 3/8“ x 20 ½” (39x52cm)
  • Black and white dotted fabric   15 ¾” x 20 ½”  14.5x52cm
Fabric for the back piece:
  • Light pink fabric 20 ½” x 20 ½” (52x52cm)

Cut and Sew the Back Piece
1. Cut out the fabric pieces. Take one of the front pieces and fold the long side ½” (1 cm) towards the wrong side and iron. Repeat on the other front piece.
2. Place the 2 fabric pieces in front of you, right sides up and with the folded edges towards each other. Place the zipper between the two fabric pieces, right side up, and pin.
3. Thread the machine and snap Utility Foot B on to the machine.
4. Set your machine for wide reinforced zig zag stitch 11. Adjust the stitch width to 7.0mm. Place the zig zag at the outer edge of the zipper and sew. The front piece is done!

Use piping to give your cushion a professional tailor made finish. Use purchased piping or make your own, giving it the perfect match to your cushion fabric. (See the Accessory User’s Guide at www.husqvarnaviking.com to find instructions on how to make your own piping).

1. Take one of the cushion pieces and lay it in front of you, right side up. Pin the piping along the fabric edge. Overlap the piping to finish off at the end. Snap on the optional Mega Piping foot. Stitch in place using a straight stitch. Clip the seam allowance of the cord in the corners, to get smooth corners.
2. Open the zipper (approx. 4”/10cm) and place the back piece right side down on top of the front piece.
Put fabric and piping layers under the presser foot with the cord to the left of the foot.
Set the straight stitch in the left needle position. Sew the cushion together, still using the Mega Piping Foot.
3. urn right sides out and press.
