The Gathering Foot, also known as a shirring foot or separator foot, is used for joining two pieces of lightweight fabrics while gathering only one of the fabric layers as it is stitched to the fl at layer.

Machine setting: 4-thread overlock, stitch length 3–4, stitch width N (4–5), stitch fi nger N (stitch plate A for 901). Two needles are used, for 905/910/936: C- and D-position. Differential feed for 905/910/936: 2–2.5 (901: 2). Tensions settings: 8 for both needle thread dials and normal tension for both looper thread dials.
1. Snap on the Gathering Foot.
2. Insert the bottom fabric layer between needle plate and Gathering Foot all the way to the
upper cutter, with right side up.
3. Insert the top fabric layer in the opening of Gathering Foot and flush with the bottom layer
right side down.
4. Lower the presser foot and sew. Guide the fabric against fabric guide, letting the bottom
layer feed freely to gather.
