The Sunny Side Clutch

I love making gifts for my nearest and dearest!
My best friend and I have made each other so many wonderful gifts over the course of our 20 plus year friendship. We both cherish the effort and love that goes into the making of our gifts. Now that I am able to embroider with the Designer Jade 35 I feel like I’m able to take my personalized gifts to the next level by adding a monogram or other personalized embroidery.
I have just completed this
Sunny Side Clutch for my best friend (she will have received her gift before this is posted, so no spoilers!). It’s a great pattern by
Little Moo Designs which was fast to make and looks really polished. I find that some clutch patterns are a little too reminiscent of the pencil cases I used to make in high school for my liking, but the recessed zipper and beautiful shape of this clutch sets it apart. Best of all is that it really is easy to make and gives you a chance to highlight special fabrics.
For this Sunny Side Clutch I used a combination of cork fabric, quilting cotton and denim. My friends favourite colour is orange, which is why I chose a beautiful orange print by Moda Fabrics. I lined the clutch with the same orange fabric and used orange embroidery thread to monogram her initial onto the back of the clutch. For the side and back fabric I used a dark denim which I think works well with the orange fabric.
To make the clutch I used the standard feet (for sewing & zipper insertion) which come with the Designer Jade 35. Due the thickness of the fabrics and cork, I used a leather/heavyweight fabric needle. I used a heavy weight thread for topstitching which gives a much nicer finish than regular sewing thread.
I am so pleased with how this gift turned out! I feel that it’s even more special because I was able to personalize it by adding a monogram.
Happy Sewing!
