40 wt. Rayon embroidery thread “blooms” the best, but polyester or cotton threads can also be used. Because Thread Velvet™embroideries are multiple satin elements, be sure to use embroidery weight thread.
Because Thread Velvet™ embroidery builds up a lot of thread; you will have the best results if you use your (optional) Sensor Q Foot #412 59 75-45. When embroidering with the Sensor Q Foot, be sure to select Sensor Q Foot in your SET menu, or Free Motion Spring Action.
Thread Velvet™ always has two colors, one stitched on top of the other. For best results, use the thread colors given, or two shades of the same color, in other words, light and medium red. The satin stitch stitches first, then it is outlined with a straight stitch on each Thread Velvet™ layer.
It takes a couple of hours for the thread to “fluff”. To speed the “fluffing” process, blast it with steam from your steam iron. Do not put the iron down on the thread.
After the stitching is complete, use a “surgical” seam ripper and “slice” the Thread Velvet™ portions down the center. Remember, you can tell which they are by the layers of satin stitch surrounded by a straight stitch. Try to slice just the upper layers of thread. If you cut through to the fabric by mistake, don’t worry. It will be fine. If the fabric is a high contrast that is showing through, touch it up with a colored permanent fabric marker.
If the garment or project is going to be washed, apply fabric glue to the wrong side of the stitched area. This will help protect the cut threads from pulling out.
Tip: if you cut through the fabric by mistake, fuse a piece of INSPIRA Light & Soft Fuse-On to the wrong side.
