Quilting is a global phenomenon, though the material, techniques and motifs differ from country to country and continent to continent. The Japanese embraced quilting long before the Europeans. The most common type of Japanese quilting is called Sashiko and originates from the tradition of sewing together many layers to reinforce and create warmer working clothes.Sashiko is sewn with very visible stitch patterns, usually in a light colored thread on dark fabric.
