Sew What? with Karen Charles - Something New!

Posted by Karen Charles
Three years ago I threw caution to the wind: I resigned from my job managing a Viking store, moved to a new home on Lake Champlain in Vermont and began my career as a Husqvarna Viking® educator. Lucky for me, my husband followed me!  Today, I have the pleasure of traveling the country, sharing my love of quilting, sewing, and embroidery. Every day I am inspired by people I meet and how wonderfully creative they are.

I hope this blog will be a place to share inspiration as well as tips and hints to make your sewing, quilting and embroidery easier and more creative than you ever thought possible.

When I was home a couple of weeks ago I dropped by the Vermont Quilt Festival.  It was great to see the beautiful quilts, but one especially caught my eye.  It was made by Marsha Morse from Whitehall NY.  She took a design from our Premier+TM Ultra software and created a true work of art. Her quilt is 27” x 33” and the main embroidery is done on one piece of black cotton fabric.

I used the same technique with another design from Premier+TM Ultra software to make this 16” pillow. The 8” asymmetrical design was rotated and stitched 4 times on one piece of black cotton velvet to create an amazing pillow below.

Have you ever made a whole cloth embroidered quilt?   Post a picture for us to see!  Let’s share the creativity!
In my next post, I will tell you where to find the design Marsha used and show you how to create projects like these.

Hi, really enjoyed this becuz it relates directly to one of our embroideries we have as a bonus. It's so nice with details that followed. Sorry for posting her my question but couldn't post comment on other post.

My question is in design positioning; how to you pick best points or placement for a multiple hooping design? Thank you in advance.

I Love the Viking machines. However, I find that they are so expensive, and that for a large majority of us that love to sew and want a great machine they are out of our price range even with financing available. Is there anyway the company can come down on the prices some. I don't own one but would love to and I keep looking for one that I can possibly buy used or new. I also tell people that if they really want a great machine to look into purchasing a Viking. Thanks for making such great machines that make beautiful projects.

Very lovely pillow, Karen! If you could tell the web site folks to please allow us to click on your photos and have them zoom, that would be wonderful. Photos are so tiny we can barely see the lovely images you're sharing with your readers!

Marsha's quilt is gorgeous. I was inspired by you Moroccan Tile embroidery on Black cotton velvet so I made one for our store. Now I am going to have to do this. Curse you and bless you Karen Charles for giving us such great inspiration and ideas. Keep it up. Marsha, you are FABULOUS.
