Sewing with the Left Edge Topstitch Foot

I love that there is always something new to learn with sewing.

I’ve been sewing for decades, but only recently discovered the amazing left edge topstitch foot.  Am I the only one who didn’t know about this foot??! It’s amazing!!!  I really cannot get over what a difference this little foot makes to topstitching and hemming.  The foot is an optional extra for my Designer Jade 35 and one I would highly recommend adding to your collection.

The left edge topstitch foot perfectly guides your sewing for an effortlessly neat finish.  I used the foot on this skirt, which has a lot of hemming due to all the ruffles and it kept my edges perfectly even.  For the main construction of the skirt I used my regular machine foot, and the invisible zipper foot (another optional extra which is a must have!) to insert the zip.

The pattern I used for this skirt is the Carmen Skirt by Designer Stitch.  I really enjoyed making this skirt (which has 2 length options & 3 waistband options).  The pattern fits really well and best of all is a faux wrap, the front of the skirt is sewn together so you don’t have to worry about windy days!

I have had a trench coat pattern in my collection for years, and now I’m really keen to make it thanks to the left edge topstitch foot.  I was a little hesitant to make a trench coat as my critical eye would be drawn to any wonky topstitching, and a trench coat has a LOT of topstitching, but with this foot I know the top stitching will all be even!

Happy Sewing!
